Once your greyhound has settled in to your home, you may want to try the following activities and have fun with your greyhound.
All dogs and their owners can benefit from basic obedience classes. In addition to learning good canine manners, greyhounds can form a stronge r bond with their owner by attending classes and working together. The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society offers a Going Greyhound Basic obedience class specifically for greyhounds.
Greyhounds are such loving, caring animals that it’s only natural to want to share them with others. If your greyhound has completed basic obedience classes and you feel that he/she and you may be interested in visiting with people in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, or libraries, then becoming a registered therapy dog may be the way to go. The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society offers a Canine Good Citizen (CGC)/Therapy Dog International (TDI) class, as well as regular CGC/TDI testing. More information on canine therapy can also be found at the Therapy Dogs International website.
High energy, playful hounds may enjoy running, jumping, and tunneling through the obstacles on an agility course. There are several places in the Pittsburgh area that offer agility classes, including the Golden Triangle Obedience Training Club, Splash ‘n Dash K9 Sports, and the Western PA Humane Society.
